It's crazy, but I look forward to Tuesday night and my American Idol fix almost as much as date night with my husband. That's alot.
So, wouldn't you know, I see a parallel between the stickiness of American idol performers and the effectiveness of your personal web branding. It's all about the same things....see what you think.
1. First off, be memorable. How many times has Simon told Haley she's forgettable? Too many. Haley is beautiful and her vocals are butter, but she is too usual. Your website can fall into the same trap, please don't let it.
2. Secondly, be authentic. Gina Glocksen is a great example of authenticity. She is consistently true to the rock'r girl from head to toe. When it comes to your website, don't try to be something you're not - and be consistent in who you are.
3. Next, be different. Sanjaya's hair on this week's show was so weird, but Ryan Seacrest's parody the next night only added to the memorability. Way to go Sanjaya. How can you be different in a way that attracts attention (without inviting parody)?
4. Fourthly, own it. Blake does a great job of turning vanilla into raz-tango. He gives every song a flavor all his own. This is the secret of great web offers. Make your offer proprietary, your own flavor, not sold in stores, and only available from you.
5. Finally, soar above. Have you watched Melinda Doolittle? She soars. I mean she is so darn talented, and she offers it from her heart, week after week. Your offer should be that way, too. Give from that deep well of talent, passion, and experience - the place where you are soaring high.
So I'm hooked on American Idol. But, from now on, I'm going to unplug the "how-can-I-apply-this" mentality, and just chill with it. I'm already looking forward to next Tuesday.
